JOB ADVERT – PLANT & EQUIPMENT WORKSHOP ASSISTANT
1. ABOUT MANGETHE GROUP Mangethe Group is a dynamic and growing organisation involved in construction, infrastructure development, and heavy equipment operations. The company is committed to operational excellence, safety, and the efficient management of plant and equipment resources across its projects.
To strengthen its Plant & Equipment Department, Mangethe Group seeks to appoint a hard-working, disciplined, and safety-conscious Workshop Assistant to support workshop operations, plant maintenance activities, and general mechanical support functions.
2. POSITION OVERVIEW The Workshop Assistant will support the Workshop Foreman, Mechanics, and Plant & Equipment Department in ensuring that plant, machinery, and vehicles are properly maintained, serviced, and repaired.
The position plays a key role in ensuring efficient workshop operations, proper handling of tools and spare parts, workshop cleanliness, and assisting mechanics during equipment maintenance and repairs. This position also supports basic inspections, parts handling, workshop housekeeping, and maintenance logistics.
3. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
3.1 WORKSHOP SUPPORT OPERATIONS
- Assist mechanics and technicians during equipment servicing, maintenance, and repairs.
- Prepare tools, equipment, and materials required for mechanical work.
- Support disassembly and assembly of mechanical components under supervision.
- Assist with lifting, handling, and positioning of machine parts.
- Ensure that all tools, components, and equipment used during repairs and maintenance are cleaned, properly handled, and safely stored after use.
- Report visible equipment defects or abnormal conditions to the workshop supervisor.
3.2 WORKSHOP HOUSEKEEPING
- Maintain cleanliness and organisation of the workshop area.
- Ensure work areas are safe, tidy, and free of hazards.
- Dispose of waste materials, used oils, and scrap components in accordance with environmental and policies requirements.
- Ensure tools, equipment, and parts are properly stored and accounted for.
3.3 SAFETY, HEALTH, ENVIRONMENT & QUALITY (SHEQ)
- Comply with all workshop safety procedures and company policies.
- Wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all times.
- Follow safe handling procedures for tools, equipment, and materials.
- Report unsafe conditions, accidents, or near misses immediately.
- Support environmental protection by preventing oil spills and pollution.
4. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
4.1 QUALIFICATIONS Applicants should possess any of the following qualifications:
- Certificate in Diesel Plant Fitting/Motor Mechanics/Auto-Electrics.
- Trade-related technical qualification from a recognised institution.
- Relevant technical training will be an added advantage.
4.2 EXPERIENCE Applicants must have:
- Minimum 1–2 years’ experience working in a mechanical workshop or plant environment.
- Exposure to construction plant, heavy equipment, trucks, or vehicles.
- Basic understanding of mechanical tools and workshop equipment.
- Ability to follow technical instructions and safety procedures.
Experience in the construction or heavy equipment industry will be an added advantage.
