To strengthen its Plant & Equipment Department, Mangethe Group is seeking to appoint a highly skilled, experienced, and results-driven Class One Auto-Electrician to support the maintenance, diagnostics, and repair of electrical systems on the company’s fleet of plant and equipment.
2. POSITION OVERVIEW
The Class One Auto-Electrician will be responsible for diagnosing, repairing, installing, and maintaining electrical and electronic systems on heavy mobile equipment, construction machinery, trucks, and support vehicles.
The role requires strong technical expertise in electrical diagnostics, wiring systems, sensors, electronic control units (ECUs), and machine monitoring systems to ensure maximum equipment availability and operational efficiency.
3. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
3.1 ELECTRICAL DIAGNOSTICS & REPAIRS
- Diagnose electrical and electronic faults on construction plant, heavy equipment, and vehicles.
- Repair electrical systems including wiring harnesses, sensors, control modules, relays, and circuit systems.
- Identify and troubleshoot faults in electronic control units (ECUs) and machine monitoring systems.
- Conduct electrical testing using diagnostic tools, multimeters, and specialised equipment.
3.2 INSTALLATION & ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS MAINTENANCE
- Install and maintain electrical components and systems on plant and equipment.
- Repair and replace alternators, starters, batteries, lighting systems, sensors, and control switches.
- Install and maintain machine monitoring systems, warning systems, and instrumentation panels.
- Maintain electrical integrity of machines to prevent operational disruptions.
3.3 PREVENTIVE MAINTENANCE
- Conduct preventive electrical inspections on plant and equipment.
- Support scheduled maintenance programs to ensure equipment reliability.
- Inspect electrical wiring, connectors, and circuits to prevent failures.
- Ensure electrical systems meet manufacturer and operational standards.
3.4 FAULT REPORTING & DOCUMENTATION
- Record and report electrical faults identified during inspections and repairs.
- Complete workshop job cards and maintenance records accurately.
- Provide technical feedback to workshop management regarding recurring faults.
- Assist in maintaining equipment service history records.
3.5 EQUIPMENT & WORKSHOP SUPPORT
- Work closely with mechanics during major machine repairs and overhauls.
- Support troubleshooting of electrical systems on earthmoving equipment and heavy trucks.
- Ensure tools and diagnostic equipment are properly maintained.
3.6 SAFETY, HEALTH, ENVIRONMENT & QUALITY (SHEQ)
- Comply with all workshop safety standards and company policies.
- Use appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all times.
- Follow safe handling procedures when handling electrical systems and batteries.
- Ensure environmental protection through safe handling of electrical components and materials.
4. EQUIPMENT EXPOSURE
The successful candidate will be expected to work on electrical systems for equipment such as: Excavators, Front-end Loaders, Motor Graders, Bulldozers, Rollers / Compactors, Tipper Trucks, Water Bowsers, Service Vehicles, and other construction plant and support equipment.
5. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
5.1 QUALIFICATIONS Applicants must possess:
- National Certificate in Automobile Electrics
- Class One Trade Tested Auto-Electrician
- Relevant technical certifications in Automotive Electrical Systems
- Additional electrical diagnostic training will be an advantage
- Valid Drivers’ licence
5.2 EXPERIENCE Applicants must have:
- Minimum 5 years’ experience as a qualified Auto-Electrician
- Traceable experience & exposure working on heavy construction equipment and trucks
- Strong knowledge of modern electronic control systems and diagnostics
- Experience with electrical fault tracing and repair
- Experience within the construction or mining industry will be an added advantage
