The Power of Strategic Outreach

The strongest bridge to your next opportunity is not always a polished CV, it is a genuine human connection. While many job seekers wait for vacancies to be advertised, proactive individuals are tapping into the hidden job market through ethical networking and informational interviews. At Likusasa Letfu, we believe that how you approach a company is just as important as what you can offer.

Ethical Networking: The “Give Before You Get” Rule
Networking is often misunderstood as using people for favours. In reality, it is about building mutually beneficial relationships. Start by identifying individuals in your desired field and engaging with their work. If they share an article on LinkedIn, offer a thoughtful comment. If they speak at a local seminar, follow up with a short note thanking them for a specific insight. By offering value or genuine appreciation first, you move from being a stranger asking for a job to a peer building a professional bridge.

The Informational Interview: Curiosity over Recruitment
An informational interview is not a job interview. It is a research opportunity. When you reach out to a professional, your goal is to learn about their career path, industry challenges, and the skills they value most.

The request should be brief and respectful. For example, express your interest in their work and ask for 15 minutes to gain insight into the industry.

The execution requires preparation. Ask specific questions such as what advice they would give someone entering the field today. Avoid asking for a job during this conversation. Focus on learning and building rapport.

Mastering the “Warm” Cold Call
Calling a company you admire can feel intimidating, but it demonstrates initiative. Move beyond asking if they are hiring and instead focus on a specific need. Research the company’s recent work and tailor your message. Express interest in what they are doing and highlight how your skills could support their efforts.

By shifting your mindset from asking for a chance to offering a solution, you position yourself as a strategic professional. You are starting a conversation that ensures you are remembered when an opportunity arises.
