SAFETY COMPLIANCE SUPERVISOR

Applications are invited from suitably qualified and experienced candidates for appointment to the above position that has arisen in the SHERQ Function, reporting to the SHERQ Officer.

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS

  • Enforce Safe Work Procedures (SWPs) across all agricultural operations and always ensure full compliance.
  • Monitor and verify the consistent implementation of SWPs through routine supervision and follow up.
  • Conduct daily spot checks in sugarcane fields and workshops to ensure ongoing adherence to safe work practices.
  • Conduct regular risk assessments across farms, workshops, and operational areas, including emergency preparedness and response planning.
  • Assist in coordinating and responding to emergency incidents such as fires, vehicle accidents, and serious workplace injuries.
  • Lead and facilitate emergency drills on farms and in workshops to test and improve emergency response procedures.
  • Train employees on health and safety protocols, safe work practices, fire safety, and emergency response procedures.
  • Support investigations of fire incidents and other emergencies, compiling findings and recommending corrective actions.
  • Implement and maintain the fire prevention programme across farms, workshops, and neighboring communities.
  • Train employees, contractors and visitors on health and safety protocols, safe work practices, fire safety, and emergency response procedures.
  • Carry out contractor SHE management system audits and operational compliance assessments.
  • Coordinate the servicing, maintenance, and certification of fire extinguishers and other fire fighting equipment.
  • Install and maintain safety signage and noticeboards in farms, workshops, and high-risk areas.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • O’level certificate
  • Diploma in Safety Management
  • SAMTRAC
  • ITIS (Instructional Techniques in Safety)
  • Fire Training certificate
  • Have at least 2 years relevant experience and advanced knowledge of SHE legislations.
  • Good knowledge of the Health and Safety Act, including the relevant regulations.
  • Basic knowledge in ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001 and NOSA Integrated Five-Star System.
  • Well-developed computer skills, Observational skills to identify potential hazards, communication skills, problem-solving skills.
