Overview

The Clinton Health Access Initiative, Inc. (CHAI) is a global health organization committed to our mission of saving lives and reducing the burden of disease in low-and middle-income countries. We work at the invitation of governments to support them and the private sector to create and sustain high-quality health systems.

CHAI was founded in 2002 in response to the HIV/AIDS epidemic, with the goal of dramatically reducing the price of life-saving drugs and increasing access to these medicines in the countries with the highest burden of the disease. Over the following two decades, CHAI has expanded its focus.

Today, along with HIV, we work with our partners to prevent and treat infectious diseases such as COVID-19, malaria, tuberculosis, and hepatitis. Our work has also expanded into cancer, diabetes, hypertension, and other non-communicable diseases, and we work to accelerate the rollout of lifesaving vaccines, reduce maternal and child mortality, combat chronic malnutrition, and increase access to assistive technology.

We are investing in horizontal approaches to strengthen health systems through programs in human resources for health, digital health, and health financing. With each new and innovative program, our strategy is grounded in maximizing sustainable impact at scale, ensuring that governments lead the solutions, that programs are designed to scale nationally, and learnings are shared globally.

Program Overview

Since 2002, CHAI has been supporting the Ministry of Health (MOH) in Eswatini in the implementation of its National Health Strategic Plan, which encompasses supporting health systems strengthening service delivery for sexual reproductive, maternal, neonatal, and child health services.

CHAI prioritizes sustainable, government-led impact at national scale.

Position Overview

CHAI Eswatini is seeking a motivated, detail-oriented Graduate Trainee to support two complementary program workstreams: increasing access to sexual reproductive health services for adolescents and strengthening nutrition interventions for children and pregnant women. The Program Assistant will support the SRMNH Coordinator and work closely with the Ministry of Health (MoH) in implementing this work.

This is an excellent opportunity for a driven early-career professional to contribute to high-impact programs in reproductive health and HIV, while building expertise in health systems strengthening in a dynamic country context.

Responsibilities

1. Administrative Support

• Provide administrative and operational support, including procurement processes such as preparing requisitions, tracking approvals, and liaising with vendors to ensure timely delivery of planned activities
• Support planning of program activities, including meetings, trainings, and field visits
• Support documentation of field-level implementation, development of reports, and program updates

2. SRMNH Implementation Support

• Provide on-the-ground support for the incentivized service delivery model through collaboration with facilities and stakeholders
• Assist in the monitoring of the incentivized service delivery model aimed at improving adolescent ASRH services uptake
• Identify implementation challenges and support in addressing them
• Schedule appointments with pilot facilities for incentives distribution, documentation collection, and collection of completed exit interviews
• Conduct data quality checks (QC) to ensure that all fields have been completed in the exit interview forms before leaving the facility
• Data capturing and uploading of completed exit interview forms from implementing facilities
• Maintain confidentiality and ethical standards when handling client-level data

3. Zinc/ORS Delivery Strengthening: Child Health

• Support integrated management of neonatal and childhood illnesses (IMNCI) programmatic work to strengthen facility-level delivery of Zinc and ORS for diarrhea treatment
• Support assessment of bottlenecks in availability, prescribing practices, quantification, and uptake of services

4. Nutrition: Maternal Health

• Support collaboration with MOH Nutrition Council on maternal nutrition priorities
• Support desk review of global and country-specific evidence on national nutrition data to assess current status, gaps, and opportunities for strengthening maternal nutrition programming
• Support design and implementation of assessments at facility and community levels to evaluate supplementation practices and development of evidence-based recommendations

5. Communication

• Regularly update the SRMNH Coordinator and promptly report any challenges/issues encountered

6. Other Responsibilities

• Support with any other responsibilities as assigned

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, Social Sciences, or a related field
• 1 year of professional experience in global or public health program implementation, ideally in low- or middle-income country settings
• Demonstrated experience or strong interest in at least one of the following areas: sexual and reproductive health, family planning, HIV/AIDS, or supply chain management
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, synthesize, and interpret health data to inform programmatic decisions
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English, including the ability to produce clear technical documents and reports for diverse audiences
• Proven ability to work independently, manage multiple workstreams simultaneously, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
• Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to work effectively in cross-cultural, multidisciplinary teams
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); experience with data management tools or platforms is an advantage
