Job Overview
Applications are invited from suitably qualified and experienced candidates for the position of SHERQ Officer – Manufacturing, reporting to the SHERQ Manager. The successful candidate will support the implementation and continuous improvement of Safety, Health, Environment, Risk, and Quality (SHERQ) systems within the manufacturing function.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate and facilitate SHERQ risk assessments and work with operations and maintenance teams to develop mitigation plans.
- Coach and guide management in assessing, managing, and continuously improving SHERQ performance.
- Facilitate SHERQ investigations and coordinate verification of corrective actions.
- Facilitate the closeout of audit findings.
- Create SHERQ awareness through toolbox talks, noticeboards, and electronic media.
- Develop SHERQ capability in contractors and seasonal employees through inductions and training.
- Manage SHERQ induction processes through effective planning and coordination.
- Conduct inspections and internal audits to ensure compliance with legislation and SHERQ Management System requirements.
- Conduct contractor health, safety, and environmental audits.
- Maintain internal and external assurance systems by updating procedures and auditing compliance.
- Implement and drive SHERQ programmes and plans.
- Develop monitoring schedules for statutory compliance in safety, health, environment, and occupational health.
- Validate inputs into the ABF Annual HSE reporting process.
- Compile SHERQ management reports.
- Coordinate occupational hygiene surveys and corrective action closeout.
- Coordinate emergency response testing.
- Track SHERQ inspections in CMMS (SAP) and facilitate closure of identified gaps.
- Coordinate SHERQ committee meetings and recommend improvements to the SHERQ Management System.
- Oversee fire and emergency equipment inspections, maintenance, and servicing.
- Promote compliance with ABF procedures, policies, Competition Law, and Anti-Bribery and Corruption (ABC) policies.
Job Requirements
- Degree in Environmental Management and Occupational Safety & Health (EMOSH) or a related field.
- ISO 45001 / ISO 14001 / NOSA Integrated 5-Star System Lead Auditor qualification is an advantage.
- 2–3 years’ experience in a manufacturing environment in a health and safety role.
- Fire Prevention training is an added advantage.
- Knowledge of relevant SHERQ legislation and regulatory requirements.
- Strong planning, organization, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Good administrative ability and attention to detail.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Report writing, coaching, and facilitation skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
