JOB TITLE: YOUTH MENTOR (1)
MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB
This position is under the Environmental Health & Community Services Department and its main purpose is to integrate and enhance youth development within Matsapha Town through providing youth-led community interventions and enhancing ward participation, particularly youth, in Council business.
THE KEY RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE YOUTH MENTOR WILL BE, BUT NOT LIMITED TO:
- Provide youth-friendly input toward Council plans and initiatives to ensure youth participation across various development programs of Matsapha Town.
- Conduct youth profiling and segmentation to enhance understanding of the Matsapha youth population and enhance a targeted response to youth development.
- Develop and implement a comprehensive work plan that includes objectives, activities, timelines, and resources aligned with Council priorities.
- Incorporate and elevate youth voices and a youth focused lens into Council activity planning, implementation, monitoring, evaluation and learning.
- Mobilize and coordinate with relevant stakeholders to support and strengthen peer education efforts.
- Establish linkages with other programmes, partners, and sectors to enhance collaboration and resource sharing.
- Create feedback mechanisms that allow youth and stakeholders to continuously engage with Council.
- Conduct needs assessments of the youth target audience through surveys, focus groups, and informal methods.
QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND OTHER ATTRIBUTES
- IGCSE/MATRIC / O’LEVEL
- Additional training in peer education, life skills, community development, or health promotion is an added advantage.
- Fluency in English and at least one local language.
- Experience in peer education, youth engagement, or community outreach is desirable.
- Experience working with young people or vulnerable groups in a community-based setting.
- Familiarity with participatory learning methods and youth empowerment approaches.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and facilitation skills.
- Reliable, self-motivated, and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Respectful, culturally sensitive, and able to work effectively with diverse groups.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and act with integrity at all times.
TERMS AND CONDITIONS
- Twelve (12) months employment based contract.
- Only youth (18-35 yrs) residing within the jurisdiction of Matsapha Town Council, specifically from the six (6) designated wards, are eligible to apply.
