Job Description
The Specialist: BI Operations is responsible to extract meaning from and interpret large sets of structured and unstructured data in the OpCo. The role applies / makes use of statistical methods, mathematical algorithms and tools & technology to “slice and dice” data and provide meaningful results to the business. The role works in an agile environment, in a project-based team structure, coordinating with managers and specialists to respond to business requirements by developing and deploying analytical solutions. Performs other duties as assigned by Head BI & Analytics. The Specialist: BI Operations reports to Head BI & Analytics and is an individual contributor. The role maintains liaison with Group functional teams, as and when required
Responsibilities
Key Deliverables
The Specialist: BI Operations will be accountable to achieve the following objectives:
Strategy Implementation
-
Abide by and execute the functional strategy cascaded by the functional lead
-
Assist in review of the functional strategy and roadmap, in collaboration with the functional lead, to ensure its alignment with the changing dynamics of the internal and external ecosystem
Governance
Strategic Meetings
-
Participate in strategic meetings, when required
-
Execute OpCo wide transformation initiatives, when required by the functional lead
-
Implement adequate risk mitigation and controls, with directions from the functional lead
-
Assist in the evaluation baseline of Service Level Agreements (SLAs) and KPIs, when required
-
Assist in the preparation of proposal on change initiatives SLA, policies and procedures, when required
Escalations
-
Escalate issues that will result in severe time, scope, productivity, and cost or resource impact to functional lead
Function Tactical
-
Execute projects initiated in the specific sub-function
-
Abide by the established objectives, targets and budgets for the sub-function, when required
-
Document identified key risks, issues and dependencies and set mitigation actions, with guidance from the functional lead

Prepare documentation required for sign-off on tactical changes
Performance
-
Ensure execution in alignment with divisional strategy
Reporting
-
Report on a daily basis to the functional lead relating to progress made within the work area and in accordance with the measurement metrics set by the organisation

Report on an ad hoc basis on specific projects, as required
Budgets

Abide by function’s budgets in line with business objectives

Abide by project initiative budgets in line with business objectives
Operational Delivery
The role is accountable for the following work area outcomes:
Strategy & Analytics, Budgeting, Data and Reporting

Execute policies, procedures and guidelines cascaded by the functional lead and ensure compliance with the same

Comply with the set governance mechanisms, under supervision from the functional lead

Evaluate the efficiency and effectiveness of data science strategies and propose and offer suggestions for improvements
Data Science Operations
-
Liaise with the Head BI & Analytics and Manager Insights & Analytics to understand business requirement for specific programmes/projects
-
Analyse business problems with one’s discipline and question assumptions to help the business identify root cause. Identify and recommend approach to resolve the business problem
-
Translate the identified business problems into data related or mathematical solutions. Identify what methods (Eg- analytics, big data analytics, automation) will solve the problem
-
Work with multiple data sets to increase breadth of knowledge
-
Build algorithms and design experiments to merge, manage, interrogate and extract data to supply tailored reports as required
-
Use machine learning tools and statistical techniques to produce solutions to problems. For this purpose, write code to develop the required solution and application features by determining the appropriate programming language and leveraging business, technical and data requirements

Create test cases to review and validate the proposed solution design. Create proofs of concept
-
Test the code using appropriate testing approach
- Develop advanced quantitative modules using a variety of programs/software to support predictive assessment
- Produce intelligent, scalable, and automated solutions by leveraging Data Science skills
- Perform complex analyses, including optimization, text analytics, machine learning, social-science modelling, and statistical analysis, parametric and non-parametric statistical models and techniques

Work with Technology teams on the development of new data capabilities & architecture to define requirements and priorities

Develop, continuously improve, and execute an efficient framework to identify, organize, structure, and make available data attributes

Work with relevant functions to define opportunities of increase data to be collected to enhance targeting capabilities and generate new inventory opportunities

Track websites and other platforms in the form of dashboards that are contextual and visual to teams and the organisation

Participate and provide inputs to project status meetings and sprints
-
Contribute in code documentation, maintain playbooks and provide timely progress updates
-
Maintain clear and coherent communication, both verbal and written, to understand data needs and report results
-
Where required, escalate unsolvable issues to Head BI & Analytics in a timeous manner
Other tasks and duties, as assigned
Qualifications
Education:
-
Degree / diploma in Data Science or related field
-
Post Graduate degree in similar or related field is an advantage
Experience:
-
A minimum of 2 to 3 years’ total experience in Data Science / Engineering / Visualization is required
-
Experience in Fintech, banking or Telecom is preferred
-
Experience working in a global/multinational enterprise with a good understanding emerging markets is preferred
- Experience in data analysis and management, business performance management and BI within the Fintech industry
- Knowledge of modern Big Data platforms and Open-Source solutions to database, data analysis, and data management
- Deep knowledge and experience in data reporting/visualization tools (Power BI, Tableau, etc.)
- Deep knowledge and experience in data analytics tools (SQL, Python, SAS, etc.)
- Experience working across global locations/ regions and have a grasp of political, social, infrastructure and integrity challenges
