Job Description
The Senior Manager: Financial Accounting ensures EWSC’s profitability and growth and plays a support role to EWSC’s leadership in utilizing financial information to inform business strategy. The role manages the financial resources of the general accounting, accounts receivable, cash & banking, payroll, and accounts payable functions and ensures the overall accuracy of EWSC’s financial books and records. This role is responsible for the timely completion of financial statements and management reports that accurately reflect EWSC’s financial position and the results of its operations in accordance with accounting standards and statutory requirements. It acts as the primary respondent on any technical accounting issues that may arise within the organization. This role serves as the primary point of contact for the external auditors and departments relating to accounting matters and management comments. (mx.indeed.com)

Competences required:
- Knowledge of relevant legislative regulations (e.g., Companies Act, National Treasury regulations, tax legislation)
- Knowledge of accounting and auditing standards (e.g., GAAP, IFRS, IAS)
- Understanding of emerging financial accounting best practices
- Knowledge of corporate governance
- Strong understanding of internal controls and processes
- Understanding of ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning)) systems
- Financial reporting concepts, e.g., cash vs. accrual basis, fixed assets
- Ability to craft financial policies
- Ability to use public finance information with the view of lobbying with government and to identify the opportunities for the corporation
Job Requirements
Minimum Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Commerce, Finance, Financial Management or Management Accounting
- Professional Qualification: Member of EIA, CIMA, ACCA, CPA, CFA
Experience:
- 8 years’ experience, including 5 years in a managerial role
- 3 years of commercial accountability for a portfolio in the utilities industry
