SAFETY OFFICER
Lomati Mine invites suitably qualified candidates to apply for the position of Safety Officer, a position responsible for implementing Safety Health and Environmental policies and to draft, review, revise and implement Safety Health and Environmental procedures.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop, implement, and maintain health and safety policies, procedures, and systems.
- Conduct regular workplace inspections and risk assessments to identify hazards and ensure compliance.
- Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses, and implement corrective and preventive actions.
- Ensure compliance with relevant health, safety, and environmental legislation.
- Facilitate safety training, inductions, and awareness programs for employees.
- Monitor the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and ensure proper adherence.
- Maintain accurate safety records, reports, and documentation.
- Coordinate emergency preparedness and response procedures, including drills.
- Advise management on safety improvements and best practices.
KEY COMPETENCIES:
- Strong knowledge of health and safety legislation and standards.
- Excellent observation, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Good communication and report writing skills.
- Ability to work independently and enforce compliance.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- Diploma or Degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Health, or a related field.
- SAMTRAC certification will be an added advantage.
- Minimum of 3–5 years’ experience in a safety role, preferably within mining, construction, or industrial environments.
