VACANCY: DEPUTY DIRECTOR – METEOROLOGY
Applications are invited from qualified serving officers who are permanent and pensionable for appointment to fill the above-cited vacant position tenable in the Ministry of Tourism and Environmental Affairs.
QUALIFICATIONS, SKILL AND EXPERIENCE
The candidate must have all of the following qualifications:

Must have done and obtained an O’Level Certificate or its equivalent

Must have done and obtained a Bachelor of Science in Meteorology or Bachelor of Science with Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry modules outlined in World Meteorological Organization Guidelines No.258 TP144 from a recognized and accredited University, which is also a requirement
-
A Post Graduate Training (Diploma or Masters) in Meteorology from a recognized and accredited University is also a requirement
-
Four (4) years’ experience in Meteorological service and issues
-
Training in Public Administration will be an added advantage
RESPONSIBILITIES
-
Responsible for the coordination of Human Resources
-
Responsible for the implementation of the Department’s strategy, work plan and budget execution
-
Responsible to the Director
DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES
-
Is the relief warrant holder
-
Coordinates and approves/disapproves leave of meteorological technicians (junior officials)
-
Coordinates procurement
-
Coordinates the implementation of the department’s training and continuous professional development plans
-
Coordinates fleet management and appropriately advises the Director
-
Assists in departmental budget preparation
-
Coordinates the compilation of departmental reports for the endorsement of the Director
-
Coordinates the implementation of discipline in accordance with the General Orders and the Employment Act
-
Advises on environmental health and safety
-
Ensures that all management and departmental meetings are properly recorded
-
Routinely inspects outstations to monitor environmental health and safety, and general staff wellbeing
-
Maintains the departmental external and internal meetings’ schedule
-
Conducts and coordinates research directed towards advancement of meteorology science and the comprehensive description and understanding of Swazi weather and climate
SALARY
The basic salary is on Grade E3: E 559,101.00 rising to E 605,189.00 per annum.
