Job Description

The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting the Executive Chairman to provide; People leadership in the business operations, Integration of the business with the Group’s other insurance businesses in order to achieve business benefits, and Ensure that financial, commercial and operational best practices are implemented. This individual will assist in all aspects of financial control and reporting. This will include the preparation of company’s financial statements; audit engagements relating to the company financials and develop projects and initiatives that meet the strategic goals of the group and businesses.

Key Responsibilities

  • FINANCE: Assist in; Financial Reporting, including preparation of IFRS compliant accounts and preparation of returns to the regulator. Financial Management, Cash flow and Debtor management, budgeting and forecasting, tax compliance, financial audits (both internal and external), monthly management reporting and integrity of the SAP general ledger and its integration with Life and Asset Management operating system. Ensuring the execution of strategic priorities in order to achieve agreed business goals. Developing and manage annual budgets for the division. Performing periodic cost and productivity analysis. Overseeing compensation programmes and processes to ensure regulatory compliance and competitive salary levels. Overseeing payroll functions for the group. Planning human resource requirements in conjunction with other departmental heads.

  • OPERATIONS: Assist in; Ensuring there are appropriate commercial processes and infrastructure in place to deliver desired business objectives. Understanding and managing key risks to which the business is exposed including insurance, operational, compliance, and legislative risk. Leading the support services management function, report periodically to the GCEO and assisting in setting strategy and monitoring performance as assigned. Supporting departmental performance against plan & budget implementation and tracking in conjunction with the Finance Department. Ensuring proper administration of policies and procedures. Overseeing the development, maintenance, and implementation of labour relations policies as required. Leading negotiations and coordinate all disciplinary/grievance procedures, ensuring compliance with policy and national legislation. Driving the development and consistent application of a performance management system for the group. Developing and implement change and training initiatives. Driving the development of employee wellness assistant programs. Overseeing the implementation of corporate social responsibility initiatives. Managing stakeholder engagement and reporting.

  • ANTI MONEY LAUNDERING: Assist in; Setting the Tone at the Top: Ensure a strong compliance culture across the organization. Policy Approval: Approve AML/CFT frameworks, policies, and risk appetite. Governance & Oversight: Oversee management’s implementation of AML/CFT obligations. Resource Allocation: Ensure the compliance function is adequately resourced (budget, staff, training, systems). Risk Appetite Alignment: Set the organization’s approach to AML/CFT risk in line with regulatory expectations. Board Reporting: Ensure AML/CFT compliance is reported to the Board and regulators. Accountability: Hold senior managers accountable for compliance performance.

  • CUSTOMER ENGAGEMENT AND RELATIONSHIP MANAGEMENT: Assist in; Interacting and managing key stakeholders, including (but not limited to) Boards, Regulators, Shareholders, Statutory Actuary, Auditors. Upholding accountability for the vision, mission, and values among all divisional employees and subsidiaries. Exhibiting exemplary leadership and uphold the highest standards of ethical conduct. Evaluating emerging technologies and recommending innovative solutions to drive business value and maintaining a competitive edge. Maintaining and overseeing the Project Register, proposing, driving, and executing projects aligned with organizational priorities. Maintaining strong and beneficial relationships with both external and internal clients and stakeholders. Managing relationships with technology vendors and service providers to ensure service quality and cost-effectiveness. Collaborating closely with executive leadership and departmental heads to understand their technology needs and providing strategic guidance to support business objectives. Assessing and mitigating technology related risks, including cybersecurity threats, disaster recovery planning, and compliance risks. Preparing, reviewing, and approving weekly, monthly, and quarterly reports: actively participate in Management Committee (Manco) and Executive Committee (Exco) meetings.

  • PEOPLE MANAGEMENT: Assist to; Plan human resource requirements in conjunction with other departmental heads. Collaborate in establishing effective performance measurement standards to support staff performance management processes, including evaluating performance and productivity. Set performance standards for the upcoming year in alignment with performance evaluations and monitor these in conjunction with the corporate affairs department. Drive the development and consistent application of a performance management system for the group. Implement processes and procedures to track training and development (continuous professional development) for employees. Facilitate opportunities for staff to engage in training and development, focusing on both technical expertise and interpersonal skills. Develop and implement employee wellness assistance programs, and in; Employee turnover & performance of direct reports.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or relevant qualification.

  • A Master’s Degree in a Business Administration or equivalent is an added advantage.

  • At least 10 years’ experience at a senior level in the Insurance or Financial Services Industry.

  • Leading and developing people, developing and managing business processes that deliver strategic goals to the benefit of the business.

  • Project Management will be beneficial.
