FINANCIAL ACCOUNTANT
Purpose of the position:
The incumbent is responsible for managing an organisation’s financial reporting processes, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely preparation of financial statements. This role supports strategic decision-making by providing reliable financial information and maintaining strong internal controls.
Key areas of responsibility:
• General Ledger Management:
-
Maintain and oversee the integrity of the general ledger
-
Review and post journal entries, accruals, and adjustments
-
Reconcile subsidiary ledgers and resolve discrepancies
-
Ensure compliance with accounting policies and standards (IFRS)
-
Submit balance sheet reconciliations monthly for review
• Accounts Payable (AP):
-
Manage vendor invoice processing and approvals
-
Manage and ensure timely and accurate payments to suppliers
-
Manage the reconciliation of AP accounts and maintain updated aging reports
-
Manage supplier relationships and ensure compliance with credit terms
• Accounts Receivable (AR):
-
Monitor and follow up on outstanding customer balances
-
Manage AR reconciliations and prepare aging reports
-
Resolve customer disputes promptly
• Month-end Closure and Trial Balance:
-
Lead the month-end and year-end closing processes
-
Lead and finalize balance sheet reconciliations for review
-
Prepare accurate trial balances for reporting
-
Supporting preparation of financial statements and audit schedules
• Cash Flow Forecasting and Management:
-
Prepare and update weekly or monthly cash flow forecasts
-
Monitor cash balances and transactions
-
Liaise with Treasury on funding requirements
-
Recommend initiatives to optimize working capital
• Financial Reporting and Compliance:
-
Draft financial statements for review
-
Ensure compliance with internal controls and audit standards
-
Support external and internal audits with documentation
-
Identify and implement process improvements
• Taxation:
-
Assist with the filing of the income tax returns for the group
• Teamwork and Communication:
-
Collaborate with other departments (e.g. Procurement, Revenue Accounting)
-
Communicate financial insights to management
-
Support training of junior finance staff
-
Perform any other duties that may be assigned on a day-to-day basis
Key Competencies:

Strong knowledge of IFRS

Excellent analytical and numerical skills

High attention to detail and accuracy

Strong communication and presentation skills

Ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple priorities

Proficiency in Excel and financial modelling

Integrity, discretion, and professionalism
Key Performance Indicators:

Timely execution and completion of activities of annual Procurement plans
-
Savings achieved through negotiation or strategic sourcing and prompt responsiveness to procurement queries or support
Minimum Qualifications:
-
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance Commerce or a related field
-
Professional certification (e.g., ACCA, CIMA, CPA, CA(SA)) preferred or in progress
-
Experience working with ERP or Accounting Systems such as Sage or similar
Experience:
-
3 – 5 years relevant accounting experience or exposure in a large multi-entity corporate environment with complex accounting operations
-
Must have served articles with a reputable audit firm
-
Prior experience in Audit preparation or financial process improvement projects
-
Prior experience in Accounts Payable and Receivable supervision
-
Experience in the aviation industry will be an added advantage
