Duties Station: Siteki Programme Location
Contract Duration: Two (2) years
Purpose of the Position
The Driver / Yardsmans is responsible for providing safe, reliable transport services and ensuring the day-to-day upkeep of the SOS Children’s Village grounds and basic infrastructure. The role supports a safe, functional and well-maintained environment for children and young people without parental care or at risk of losing it, as well as staff and visitors.
Key Responsibilities
Driving and Transport
- Provide safe and authorised transport for children, young people, staff and visitors.
- Ensure all trips are approved, efficiently planned and accurately recorded in vehicle logbooks.
- Maintain good knowledge of local routes and comply with Eswatini traffic legislation at all times.
- Ensure vehicles are clean, roadworthy and properly maintained.
- Follow established procedures in the event of accidents, breakdowns or emergencies.
Vehicle Care
- Conduct routine vehicle checks, including fuel, oil, brakes, tyres, lights, battery and radiator.
- Report mechanical issues promptly and support servicing and minor repairs as required.
Yard and Grounds Maintenance (Yardsmans Duties)
- Carry out day-to-day upkeep of the village grounds, including cleaning, basic landscaping and general yard maintenance.
- Ensure the village environment is safe, clean and well maintained at all times.
- Identify and report major maintenance needs and support external contractors when required.
General
- Comply with all relevant Eswatini legislation and SOS Children’s Villages policies and procedures.
- Uphold child safeguarding and ensure that the protection of children and young people informs all actions and decisions.
- Act as a positive role model and ambassador for SOS Children’s Villages.
Qualifications and Experience
- Form 5 certificate or relevant tertiary qualification.
- Valid Eswatini Class E Driver’s Licence (mandatory).
- Advanced or defensive driving training will be an added advantage.
- Minimum of five (3) years’ experience in a driving and/or maintenance-related role.
Skills and Knowledge
- Knowledge of local culture, customs and traditions.
- Good understanding of regional and local road networks.
- Knowledge of Eswatini traffic legislation (essential).
- Good time management, planning and organisational skills.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
