Capital Projects & Facilities Manager

POSITION SUMMARY
Serve as Project Canaan’s representative for all capital construction and infrastructure projects, providing independent oversight of architects, engineers, contractors, consultants, and third-party project management firms to ensure projects are delivered safely, on budget, on schedule, and in accordance with the organization’s long-term campus vision.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Represent Project Canaan on all capital projects in all interactions with architects, engineers, contractors, consultants and project partners
- Review project scopes, budgets, schedules, contracts, drawings, and specifications
- Attend project meetings and provide independent oversight of project execution
- Monitor project progress, risks, change orders, and budget performance
- Conduct regular site inspections and verify quality of workmanship
- Identify issues early and escalate risks and recommendations to executive leadership
- Maintain project reporting dashboards and executive summaries
- Lead punch-list reviews and project closeout activities
- Support long-term campus infrastructure planning and facility lifecycle management
- Maintain records of warranties, as-built drawings, and maintenance documentation
- Support future campus master planning and capital improvement initiatives
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Architecture, Quantity Surveying, Project Management, or related field
- Minimum 8 years’ experience managing or overseeing construction and infrastructure projects
- Strong understanding of construction contracts, project controls, budgeting, and scheduling
- Experience working with contractors, consultants, and design professionals
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong organizational and stakeholder management capabilities
- Experience working in Sub-Saharan Africa (strongly preferred)
- Experience with educational, healthcare, agricultural, nonprofit, or community development facilities
- Professional certifications in project management, engineering, or construction management
- Experience overseeing multiple concurrent capital projects
- Demonstrated ability to exercise sound professional judgment in planning and execution of capital projects, including independent risk identification, assessment, and mitigation
