Business Intelligence Analyst (Ezulwini)
Description
a. Business Intelligence and Reporting Delivery
·Engage operational and support divisions to identify business problems, decision-making needs, and performance gaps, acting as the primary Data & Analytics and BI business partner
·Work jointly with the Business Scientist to frame business problems, prioritise BI use cases, and align reporting requirements to operational objectives
·Integrate advanced analytical outputs from the Data Scientist into dashboards where required
·Design, develop and maintain interactive dashboards, standard reports, and management information products using approved BI tools
·Define and apply consistent reporting standards, metrics, and KPIs aligned to ERS priorities
·Ensure BI solutions are aligned to organisational priorities and decision-making needs under guidance of Director: Data & Analytics
b. Data Collection, Preparation, and Reporting Integration
·Identify and access relevant data sources required for reporting and BI solutions
·Collaborate with the Data Engineer to ensure data pipelines deliver complete, accurate, and timely data into the data warehouse
·Work with the Data Platform & Integration Specialist to ensure stable data integrations, platform availability, and appropriate access controls.
·Extract, transform, and prepare data for use in dashboards and reports using approved BI tools and processes.
·Develop and design BI systems, tools, dashboards, and analytical tools in line with approved architecture and business requirements
·Research and recommend appropriate BI software, tools, and supporting hardware capabilities to enhance analytics, performance, and scalability within ERS
·Develop and maintain reporting datasets and data models aligned to enterprise data architecture.
·Define and apply data validation rules, working with the Data Engineer to resolve data quality issues at source.
·Apply automation to recurring reporting and data preparation tasks.
·Document data sources, transformations, and reporting logic in line with the ERS Data Strategy, Data Governance Framework, and standards.
c. Data Analysis, Insights, and Performance Monitoring
·Analyse data to identify trends, patterns, anomalies, and performance drivers
·Work with operational divisions and the Business Scientist to interpret results in business and operational context
·Develop performance indicators and metrics aligned to ERS strategic and operational objectives
·Conduct exploratory analysis to support operational insights and management queries
·Collaborate with the Data Scientist to integrate advanced analytical and predictive modelling outputs into BI dashboards and decision-support products.
·Working with the Business Scientist translate analytical findings into actionable insights, recommendations, and decision options for ERS management
·Monitor BI outputs over time to ensure ongoing accuracy, relevance, and alignment with business needs
d.BI Enablement and Reporting Advocacy
·Define, develop, and maintain BI processes, standards, and governance frameworks in alignment with ERS Data Strategy & Data Governance Framework and policies
·Support, monitor, and reinforce the consistent implementation of BI processes and standards across operational divisions.
·Promote responsible, ethical, and secure use of BI systems and Data & Analytical tools
·Work with the Data Platform & Integration Specialist to enforce BI tool governance, access management, and platform standards
·Support and train business users in the effective use and interpretation of dashboards and reports
·Promote self-service BI while ensuring appropriate controls, data protection, and governance
·Act as BI reporting advocate and centre of excellence across ERS
e. Continuous Improvement, Research, and Strategic Contribution
- Continuously review and improve assigned BI dashboards, tools, and reporting processes to enhance usability and effectiveness.
- Conduct research into emerging BI, analytics, and data visualisation trends to inform incremental improvements and innovation
- Provide analytical input and recommendations for identified BI enhancement opportunities
- Apply innovative BI techniques within approved frameworks to improve insight delivery, efficiency, and user experience
- Contribute analytical and operational inputs to the development and implementation of the ERS Data Strategy and Data Governance Framework
- Support organisational strategic planning processes by providing actionable BI and analytics insights
Requirements
Education / Qualifications Required
Minimum:
·Bachelor’s Degree in Information Systems, Data Analytics, Computer Science, Statistics, Economics, Business Analytics, or a related discipline
·Strong grounding in data analysis, reporting, and performance measurement
·Practical experience with business intelligence and data visualisation tools (e.g. Microsoft Power BI, Tableau or similar)
·Experience working with relational databases and SQL for data extraction and analysis.
Advantageous:
·Postgraduate qualification or professional certification in business intelligence, analytics, or data visualisation (e.g. BIDA)
·Experience with data modelling, data warehousing concepts or extract, transform, load (ETL) tools, cloud analytics or advanced data environments
·Project management experience or exposure
Experience Required
Minimum:
·At least two (2) years’ experience in business intelligence, reporting, or data analysis roles
·Proven experience developing dashboards, reports, and performance indicators for operational or management use
·Proven experience analysing data to generate insights, trends, and performance metrics
·Proven experience analytical outputs including dashboards, reports and decision-support tools i.e. data analytics and visualization tools (e.g. Microsoft Power BI, Tableau)
·Proven experience working with stakeholders to translate reporting requirements into BI solutions
