Head Of Impact Measurement & Learning

Location: Project Canaan, Eswatini
Employment Type: Full-Time


About the Role
Project Canaan is seeking a strategic, analytical, and mission-driven Head of Impact Measurement & Learning to establish and lead our Impact Assessment Team at Project Canaan in Eswatini.

This role will be responsible for designing, implementing, and managing a comprehensive impact measurement framework that evaluates the long-term outcomes of Project Canaan’s programs. The Head of Impact & Learning will lead efforts to collect, analyze, and communicate data that demonstrates how our work is transforming lives across employment, child welfare, education, health, agriculture, economic development, and community engagement initiatives.

The successful candidate will combine rigorous research methodologies with practical field implementation to ensure that organizational decisions, donor communications, and strategic planning are grounded in credible evidence and measurable impact.


Key Responsibilities

Impact Measurement Strategy

  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive organizational impact measurement framework.

  • Define key performance indicators, outcomes, and long-term impact metrics across all major programs.

  • Establish baseline measurements and comparison methodologies to assess program effectiveness.

  • Ensure consistency and integrity of impact data collection over time.

  • Identify opportunities to strengthen measurement approaches and improve data quality.

Research & Evaluation

  • Design quantitative and qualitative research studies.

  • Develop surveys, interview guides, focus group protocols, and assessment tools.

  • Lead household, employee, community, and beneficiary impact assessments.

  • Design and manage longitudinal studies to measure changes over time.

  • Evaluate program effectiveness and identify drivers of success.

Data Collection & Management

  • Design and implement systems, processes and tools required to establish Project Canaan’s long-term impact measurement function.

  • Oversee field research activities and data collection teams.

  • Ensure compliance with ethical research standards and data privacy requirements.

  • Implement quality assurance procedures to maintain data accuracy.

Analysis & Reporting

  • Analyze complex datasets and translate findings into actionable insights.

  • Produce annual impact reports and program evaluation summaries.

Learning & Organizational Improvement

  • Foster a culture of learning and evidence-based decision-making.

  • Partner with department leaders to identify opportunities for program improvement.

  • Recommend strategic adjustments based on evaluation findings.

  • Help leadership understand return on investment and impact effectiveness across programs.

Team Leadership

  • Build and lead the Impact Assessment Team.

  • Manage research staff, analysts, and field enumerators.

  • Develop employee, household and community-based training and capacity-building survey programs to establish baselines and measure long-term impact.

  • Collaborate across departments to ensure alignment and participation in evaluation efforts.


Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Statistics, Public Policy, Public Health, International Development, Social Research, or a related field. Master’s Degree will be an added advantage.

  • Minimum 5 years experience in Monitoring, Evaluation, Research and Learning (MERL) or Monitoring & Evaluation (M&E) systems.

  • Experience designing and implementing surveys and field research.

  • Strong quantitative and qualitative research skills.

  • Experience managing datasets and conducting statistical analysis.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to transform complex findings into practical recommendations.

  • Experience working in Sub-Saharan Africa preferred.

  • Experience within international NGOs, development organizations, research institutions, or donor-funded programs.

  • Proficiency with statistical software such as R, Stata, SPSS, Python, or similar tools.

  • Experience with Power BI, Tableau, or other reporting platforms.

  • Experience managing research teams.
