REVENUE ACCOUNTING ASSISTANT
Purpose of the position: The Revenue Accounting Assistant is responsible for ensuring accurate recognition, reconciliation, and reporting of revenue generated from passenger ticket sales and related services. This role supports financial integrity by managing ticketing data, monitoring settlement processes, and collaborating with commercial and finance teams to ensure compliance with industry standards and internal policies.
Key areas of responsibility:
- Revenue Reconciliation & Validation
- Reconcile passenger revenue between reservation systems (e.g., Sabre, Amadeus) and financial ledgers.
- Validate ticketing data including sales, refunds, exchanges, and adjustments.
- Investigate and resolve discrepancies in revenue reporting.
- Billing & Settlement
- Monitor settlement processes through IATA BSP (Billing and Settlement Plan).
- Ensure accurate and timely processing of agency commissions, interline billings, and refunds.
- Financial Reporting
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual passenger revenue reports.
- Support internal and external audits with relevant documentation and analysis.
- Assist in revenue forecasting and budgeting activities.
- System & Data Management
- Maintain and enhance revenue accounting systems and interfaces with reservation platforms.
- Ensure data integrity and compliance with accounting standards and airline policies.
- Stakeholder Collaboration
- Work closely with Commercial, Sales, Finance, and Operations teams to ensure revenue accuracy.
- Communicate with external stakeholders including travel agents, airline alliances and auditors.
- Compliance and Controls
- Ensure adherence to international accounting standards and IATA regulations.
- Monitor for revenue leakage and implement corrective actions.
- Process Improvement
- Identify opportunities to improve revenue accounting processes.
- Participate in system upgrades, automation initiatives, and policy development.
Key Competencies:
- Strong understanding of passenger revenue streams and accounting principles.
- Proficiency in airline systems (e.g., Sabre, Amadeus, BSPLink).
- Analytical mindset with attention to detail.
- Effective communication and cross functional collaboration skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Key Performance Indicators:
- Timeliness of revenue reports.
- Completion of system enhancement tasks.
- Number of discrepancies resolved within SLA.
- 100% accuracy in reconciliations.
- Billing error rate.
- Audit readiness score.
- System uptime.
- Stakeholder satisfaction score.
- Revenue leakage incidents resolved.
- Internal control effectiveness.
- SLA compliance for settlements.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or related field from recognized institution.
- Preferably airline ticketing/fares/accounting certification.
Experience:
- Practical working experience in an airline ticketing or travel industry will be an added advantage.
- Experience in airline passenger revenue accounting.
- Familiarity with IATA BSP and interline billing processes.
