Position Title: HR Manager – (Legal and Compliance)

Job Summary:
The HR Manager (Legal and Compliance) is a senior administrative/management professional responsible for ensuring that Waterford Kamhlaba’s people practices, policies, and procedures comply with all applicable labour, statutory, and regulatory requirements. The role provides HR leadership, legal and compliance oversight, support building and maintaining positive, collaborative and respectful culture, and advisory support to management, helping to mitigate risk, uphold best practice, and enable fair, consistent, and legally sound decision making across the College.
This position is ideal for a highly organised, detail-oriented professional with cross-functional expertise and strong stakeholder management skills.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Legal Advisory & Compliance

Provide guidance on legal matters, contracts, and regulatory issues affecting the school.

Draft, review, and negotiate commercial agreements, policies, and all compliance documentation.

Monitor legislative changes and advise management on compliance implications.

Oversee risk management protocols, including legal risk assessments and mitigation recommendations.

Coordinate with external legal counsel as needed.
2. Governance & Secretariat
-
Maintain statutory records, registers, and official school documents.

Prepare, coordinate, and document Governing Council and committee meetings, including agendas, minutes, resolutions, and board packs.

Ensure school adherence to corporate and other affiliations governance best practices and relevant legislation.

Facilitate Leadership and Governance Trainings – monitor and track compliance

Manage annual filings, compliance calendars, and corporate governance audits.
3. Stakeholder Management
-
Act as the primary liaison between the Principal, management, regulators, and external stakeholders.

Liaise with the communications team to manage high stake communications, Public Relations and Conflict resolution mechanisms
4. Human Resources Support

Partner with the HR Officer to develop and review employment contracts, HR policies, and organisational compliance frameworks.

Support employee relations matters, disciplinary procedures, and dispute resolution.

Contribute to recruitment processes, onboarding/off boarding, and 360 degrees performance management frameworks.

Support initiatives related to culture, employee engagement, and workforce planning and successions.
5. Operational Coordination

Assist in strategic and operational planning processes across departments.

Improve and implement internal processes, SOPs, and workflow optimization initiatives.

Coordinate cross-functional projects and support leadership in operational decision-making.

Ensure alignment between governance requirements and day-to-day operations.

Support vendor management, and contract lifecycle processes.
Required Skills & Qualifications
-
Bachelor’s degree in Law, Business Administration, Human Resources, or related field.

Professional certification (ICSA/CGI or equivalent) is highly desirable.

5+ years’ experience in corporate governance, legal, HR, or operations roles.

Strong understanding of corporate law, regulatory frameworks, and governance best practices.

Excellent written and verbal communication, documentation, and presentation skills.

High level of integrity, discretion, and sound judgment.

Strong organisational, multitasking, and project management abilities.

Ability to build effective relationships with senior leadership, staff, and external stakeholders.
