Southern Star Logistics has an exciting new opportunity for Diesel Mechanics based at our Tambankulu Depot to ensure that trucks, trailers and yellow equipment are safely, correctly and timeously repaired according to company policies and procedures and according to manufacturer’s specifications.

Key Performance Areas Reporting to the Workshop Foreman, the duties will include:

• Maintaining, modifying, installing and repairing plant and machinery where necessary.
• Inspecting plant or production area and reporting faults to the Workshop Foreman to assist in scheduling maintenance or repairs as required to minimize loss of production.
• Being an Artisan in more than one trade, e.g. welder, fitter, boilermaker and/or electrical/mechanical engineering.
• Applying Health and Safety rules and regulations when conducting a service/repair or when attending a breakdown/accident.
• Training, guiding, informing and generally counselling in matters of technical knowledge and trade skills, any learner or subordinate allocated to him for training purposes.
• Extensive and in-depth knowledge of maintenance philosophies for a varied range of automotive and materials handling equipment, specifically:
  • Service Scheduling and Planning

Minimum Requirements To be considered for this position, the applicant must possess the following minimum competencies, skills and qualifications:

• Relevant qualification, i.e. Diploma in Heavy Duty Vehicle Mechanics
• In possession of a diesel mechanic qualification / Grade I trade test certificate.
• 5 years’ experience in heavy duty vehicle maintenance, preferably with knowledge and experience in maintaining Mercedes, Scania and Volvo trucks
• 5 years’ experience on air systems for Trucks and Trailers
• Computer literacy is essential with working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Fleet Management Systems.
• Must be in possession of a heavy duty driver’s licence would be an added advantage
• Excellent spoken and written proficiency in English
