Montigny is a leading forestry enterprise committed to sustainable forest management and operational excellence. With a strong focus on innovation, safety, and community engagement, we strive to maintain the highest standards in timber production and land stewardship. We are seeking dynamic and experienced professionals to join our team in the following positions:

HARVESTING FORESTER
Reporting to the Senior Forester

Main Purpose: To manage and oversee harvesting operations under allocation, ensuring production targets are met while maintaining strict quality control, safety standards, and contractor performance. The role focuses on optimizing the supply chain from stump to roadside.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Operational Planning & Monitoring:
  • Develop and manage 3-month rolling harvesting schedules and compartment specific operational plans.
  • Monitor and control operation start and end dates to ensure alignment with production targets.
  • Verify and authorize contractor invoices.
  1. Production Management:
  • Oversee weekly harvesting production with a focus on high value product recovery and waste management.
  • Manage harvesting, extraction, merchandising and stacking activities to ensure operational efficiency.
  1. Quality & Cost Control:
  • Manage Basic Frequency (BF%) to 50%.
  • Ensure product quality standards are met with less than 1% rejections.
  • Actively manage shorthaul of Hardwood (HW) to below 15%.
  1. Stock & Infrastructure:
  • Conduct daily stock management and reconciliation.
  • Oversee harvest road maintenance to ensure accessibility and operational continuity.
  • Manage Harvesting Compartment (Harv Compt) sign-on and sign-off procedures.
  1. Compliance & Audits:
  • Conduct daily operational site visits.
  • Perform weekly contractor work and labour audits to ensure compliance with internal requirements related to harvesting operations.
  • Ensure 100% compliance to safety audit requirements (i.e BOP’s, PJO’s, pre-entry risk assessments, equipment checklists, fell-cut-audits, etc.).
  1. Stakeholder Engagement:
  • Attend timber movement planning meetings with the Logistics department.
  • Attend safety meetings and toolbox talks.
  • Maintain strong contractor and community relationships.
  1. Safety & Risk:
  • Ensure fire protection readiness and perform fire standby duties as required.
  • Monitor and minimize Timber under Process (TUP) to improve operational efficiency and reduce risk exposure.
  • Identify and recommend training needs within contractors under management.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • National Diploma/ B-tech/ Degree in Forestry
  • Minimum 5 years relevant forestry experience
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and MicroForest software
  • Previous experience in harvesting operations an added advantage.
