MSF is recruiting the following position for its Project in Matsapha/Manzini.
NURSE
Duty Station: Matsapha

N° of positions: 1 / 100% (full time)
Providing nursing care, treatment and follow-up of patients, according to doctors’ prescriptions, protocols applied in service and universal hygiene standards/precautions, in order to ensure the quality and continuity of care for the targeted population.
Accountabilities:
- Knowing, promoting, implementing, and following up the universal hygiene standards/ precautions, bio-hazard prevention and infection control, security rules and other protocols and procedures in the medical premises and ensuring high standards of hygiene of his/her working environment. Respecting medical secrets and confidentiality at all times.
- Organizing and carrying out care and treatments according to medical prescriptions, and assisting during consultations and other medical procedures. Participating in health education of the patient (and family) when necessary.
- Identifying Sexually Gender Based Violence victims and referring them to the medical team so they can receive the necessary treatment. Knowing and is aware of the importance and appropriate use of the Post Exposure Prophylaxis (PEP) Kit and the 72h package.
- Ensuring patients are properly received and installed and that those with lack of autonomy are assisted, especially regarding their feeding, personal hygiene, movements, and comfort. Ensure triage of patients in waiting areas or during emergencies, detecting the priority acute/emergency cases, carrying out first aid care and referring them to the doctor when necessary.
- Sending material to be sterilized and recuperates it from sterilization.
- Carrying and supervising administrative procedures and documents (fill in patient’s files, forms, consumptions, statistics, registers, health files, etc.), ensuring an appropriate written/oral handover, and reporting any problematic situations and cases that may arise. Participating in data collection and keeping doctors/supervisors informed .
- Participating in the department-related pharmacy and medical equipment control and maintenance (quality and its functioning, storage conditions, follow-up of expired drugs inventories, stock takes of medicines and material at every team changeover ensuring no material is taken out of nursing area/wards without prior authorization, etc.)
- Perform cleaning and minor maintenance for biomedical equipment used. Following the user manual and protocols and alert supervisor in case of malfunctioning.
- If applicable, provide supervision and training for nurse-aids, nutritional assistants, cleaners and other related staff under his/her supervision, ensuring teamwork and adherence to all appropriate protocols and procedures
MSF Section/Context Specific Accountabilities:
The project (Sexual Health) is located in an industrial area (Matsapha) in the Kingdom of Eswatini (former Swaziland), with high risk behaviour among specific population, MSM, CSW, University students,etc…with high rates of HIV, STI, unwanted pregnancies, unsafe abortions, gender based violence and cervical cancers. The project consists of MSF standalone clinic, and community activities around. The range of the medical services are HIV care (testing, treatment, pre exposure prevention), post exposure prophylaxis, STI syndromic and individualized diagnosis and treatment, hepatitis B and C care (screening, diagnosis, treatment, vaccination), family planning, cervical cancer screening and treatment, and HPV vaccination. The goal is to provide comprehensive, one stop approach, medical services for patients/clients attending the the MSF clinic.
The clinic has implemented new activities:
- Task shifting by nurses using eCare algorithm-eCare tablet
- Cervical cancer screening using Colposcopy and performing thermo coagulation for precancerous lesions <75%.
- Use of telemedicine for complex cases and quality control for interpretation of VIA.
- Offers injectable PREP CABLA
- Operational research with the following components: DOXY PEP study, Rapid Tests comparison to gene expert and new family planning under study conditions-Sayana press.
- The position is highly qualified and includes several specific accountabilities:
- Perform patient consultations, order tests and indicate treatment under supervision of the medical doctors and using the Ecare algorithm. Know and follow the STI protocol and other SOPs relevant for the clinic. Ensure all complicated cases are discussed with and seen by a medical doctor.
- Provide and ensure proper linkage of our patients to all relevant services
- Providing family planning services and vaccinations. After sufficient training take part in cervical cancer screening and thermo coagulation.
- Provide information and obtain informed consent from patients for the research part of the project. Support the research activities where required.
- Regarding the focus of our clinic, be particularly sensitive to guarantee confidentiality and privacy for all patients. We expect a non-judgmental and highly professional behavior towards all persons requesting our services (including key populations)
Requirements (position specific):
Education
- Essential: recognized nurse degree/diploma
- Desirable bachelor’s in science of nursing
Experience
- Desirable 2 years of previous experience and previous experience in other NGO’s
- Demonstrable experience in supervising and training others in a team setting
- Experience and training in ART treatment is an asset
Languages:
- English essential. Siswati desirable.
